I-CAR - Welding Training & Certification for Career & Technical Schools

Welding Training & Certification™ for Career & Technical Schools

I-CAR has recently expanded its industry recognized Steel and Aluminum Welding Training & Certification programs to be delivered by Career & Technical schools that are PDP-EE curriculum licensed users. The I-CAR Welding Training & Certification program goes beyond the standard PDP-EE curriculum program and includes a comprehensive Educator training session, student materials and an infrastructure readiness assessment for the school. There is no charge for the Educator to receive the I-CAR Educator Welding Certification.

Why is Welding Training Needed?

When a poor or improper weld is performed during a structural collision repair, it can compromise the vehicle's structural integrity. The result may be a "repaired" vehicle that is dangerously unsafe to drive.

The collision repair industry understands the importance of welding for consumer safety. Yet 69 percent of technicians who weld in body shops today still lack formal welding training. As the industry prepares for a "technical tsunami" of new lightweight vehicles, the need for current welding training for ALL technicians who weld has never been more urgent.

The Welding Capability & Readiness Assessment

In order to deliver the I-CAR Welding Training & Certification program, the school must successfully complete the pre-program capability and readiness assessment to confirm that the infrastructure and equipment are prepared. This process helps to confirm that students will be able to safely and properly perform the welding techniques covered in the program. The assessment includes reviewing an 18-step checklist of the infrastructure, welding equipment and safety gear and determining the performance of test welds on all welders to confirm the ability to meet testing standards prior to the program’s beginning.

If the school's facility does not meet the program standards, I-CAR will work collaboratively with the school to resolve any issues and prepare the school to deliver the welding program.
